An Eagle standout in the 60s, Ruhling scored 1,105 career points which still ranks eighth among three-year players and 27th overall. He was named to the 1968 Metro Collegiate All-Star Team, the 1967 Governor's Classic All-Tournament Team and was a 1967 All Mid-Atlantic Conference honorable mention selection. Ruhling hit 82.4 percent of his free throws, a mark which still ranks 10th all-time in program history. As a junior, he averaged 20 points per game to rank among the top 50 in the country.

Overall in his career, Ruhling averaged 16 points per game. He was a two-sport athlete who also competed for track & field. His triple jump of 41' 7 3/4" is still fourth all-time, while his long jump of 20' 1/2" is still sixth all-time.

Ruhling earned his bachelor's degree in graphic design from the College of Arts and Sciences.
