The American University Spirit Program consists of a cheerleading squad, an all-female dance team, and a mascot. Each performs at all home Men's and Women's basketball games and engages in philanthropic events throughout the community. The teams also support all other athletic teams at select events.
NCA/NDA COLLEGIATE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS: Both teams compete in the National Cheerleading Association (NCA) and National Dance Alliance (NDA) Collegiate National Championships every April in Daytona Beach, Florida!
Fall semester tryouts for the 2026-27 season in Bender Arena on Sunday, August 30th. Registration begins at 9:00 AM and tryouts begin at 9:30 AM. If you are interested in auditioning for the Cheer Team or the Dance Team or have any questions, please email Spirit@american.edu.
