Women’s lacrosse’s Emily Stankiewicz has been named the
American University Student-Athlete of the Week Presented by GEICO,
Department of Athletics officials announced Monday.
Stankiewicz, a sophomore midfielder from Longmeadow, Mass.,
registered a career-best four goals in American’s 17-16
victory over previously-unbeaten Lehigh on Saturday afternoon.
Three of her scores came in the closely-contested second half,
including two that tied the score and one which put the Eagles
ahead.
In addition to her success on the offensive end, Stankiewicz
played a crucial role all over the field, registering a career-best
four draw controls, as well as a game-high three groundballs.
Stankiewicz currently leads the Eagles in both draw controls (25)
and groundballs (24), and is fifth on the squad in goals (12) and
points (14).
Stankiewicz has helped lead American to a 2-1 Patriot League
record, which puts the Eagles in a tie for third place with Lehigh.
Colgate and Navy both sit at 2-0 in conference play, while
Lafayette, Holy Cross and Bucknell sit behind AU in the standings.
The Eagles will look keep up the winning momentum when they host
Lafayette on Saturday, April 3 at 1 p.m. at Jacobs Field.
