Recht has been named the American University
Student-Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO, Department of
Athletics officials announced Monday. Recht helped the Eagles to
two victories last week including a dominant performance against
North Carolina on Sunday in which she tallied eight blocks and ten
kills.
In a rematch of last year's NCAA Tournament First Round, the
Eagles beat the Tarheels for the first time in program history,
3-1. Recht recorded a match high eight blocks, including one solo
block. Offensively, she finished the game with a .421 hitting
percentage off of ten kills.
On Tuesday, the Eagles defeated Howard in a straight-set victory
at Bender Arena. In the first set, American used an 8-0 run
which included three service aces by Recht to push the Eagles
ahead. Recht recorded a career-high four aces in the match while
notching nine kills and a .692 hitting percentage.
Recht leads the team in blocks with 36 this season and has
averaged 0.88 per set. The 6' 8" senior is currently fourth in the
AU record books for career block assists with 245 and is fifth in
career total blocks with 280.
American will return to the court on Tuesday, Sept. 22, as the
Eagles travel north to Baltimore, Md., for a 7 p.m. showdown with
