Senior Mike Cannon has been named the
American University Student-Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO
for a third time this year.
Cannon captured his second EIWA Championship on Sunday with a
5-1 decision over second-seeded Louis Caputo of Harvard to win the
184 lbs. title. Cannon was solid in the victory, scoring a takedown
in the first period to jump out on top. He added an escape point
and another takedown in the second and third periods to gain the
final margin. The two-time NCAA All-American earned his place in
the finals with a fall over Army’s Collin Wittmeyer just 1:02
into the first period of the opening round and a 6-0 decision over
Cornell’s Steve Bosak, seeded fourth, in the semis. Click here to watch video

recap.
Cannon was making his third appearance in the EIWA finals,
having also won last year's 174 lbs. title and wrestling for the
165 lbs. crown in 2008. Cannon's championship earned him an
automatic berth into the NCAA Championships, joining him with Josh
Glenn, '08, as the school's only four-time NCAA
qualifiers.
The 2010 NCAA Wrestling Championships will take place this year
at the Quest Center in Omaha, Neb., March 18-20.
