Bryant of the men's soccer team has been named
American University Student Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO,
Department of Athletics officials announced Monday. Bryant, one of
the defensive leaders on the team, has helped the Eagles keep
opponents scoreless for the last 253:20 of play, including a 0-0
tie this weekend against Lehigh.
Bryant, a two-year co-captain, has been a key force in
American's defensive unit, which has allowed only two total goals
in five Patriot League matches. The Eagles are currently leading
the Patriot League with a 4-0-1 record, and as a result of their
tie on Saturday, have clinched a berth in the four-team Patriot
League Tournament.
The 2009 Preseason Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year,
Bryant has played in 64 career matches, which includes 63 starts.
In 2008, he was named to the NSCAA/adidas All-Mid-Atlantic Region
Third Team, as well as an All-Patriot League First Team selection.
The Eagles will be back in action this Wednesday, October 28 at
crosstown rival Georgetown. The match will begin at 3 p.m.
