Junior forward Liz
Leer of the women's basketball team has been selected
as the American University Student-Athlete of the Week presented by
GEICO, Department of Athletics officials announced Monday. Leer led
AU to wins over Bucknell and Colgate last week, as the Eagles are
now 9-1 in the Patriot League.
Leer recorded 21.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocked shots
per game in the two contests. She shot 51.6 percent from the floor,
80 percent from three-point range and 77.8 percent from the free
throw line.
Leer scored a career-best with 27 points in American's 82-47 win
against Colgate on Saturday afternoon. She was nine-of-15 from the
field and made 4-of-5 three-point shots. Leer also recorded
game-highs with eight rebounds, five assists and two blocked shots.
In American's 53-49 road win against Bucknell on Wednesday
evening, Leer contributed 16 points, 12 of which came in the first
half. Leer also registered five rebounds, three blocks and a steal.
The Glenside, Pa., native is currently fourth in the conference
in scoring at 13.3 points per game, and leads the league with 2.4
blocked shots per contest. She owns the school record for the most
career blocked shots with 159.
Leer and the Eagles return to action on Wednesday, February 17th
when they visit Army. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
