Mike
Worden of the men's soccer team has been named the
American University Student-Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO,
Department of Athletics officials announced Monday. Worden scored
both game-winning goals last week in American's road victories
versus Virginia Tech and Bucknell.
On Wednesday, Worden, a junior from Silver Spring, Md., scored
the lone goal of the match in American's 1-0 win at ACC foe
Virginia Tech. He scored in the 51st minute, beating Virginia Tech
goalkeeper Brendan Dunn to his right. Daniel
Shannon was credited with the assist.
Worden added his second goal of the week in Saturday's 3-1
victory at Bucknell in the Patriot League opener. He scored the
second goal of the match in what turned out to be the game-winner.
In the 41st minute, Worden took the ball in from the
right end line and put it past Bucknell goalkeeper Tommy Caso.
"Mike Worden's play was tremendous," said American Head Coach
Todd
West following the win over Bucknell on Saturday. "I
don't like to single out individuals, but Worden is playing with a
lot of confidence."
American will be back in action this Wednesday, September 30 at
James Madison. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m. from
Harrisonburg, Va.
The Eagles will return home next Sunday, October 4 with a
Patriot League showdown versus Army at 1 p.m. The Army match will
be broadcast live on Eagles Vision TV, featuring multiple camera
