Pelletier Named Student-Athlete of the Week Presented by GEICO

Swimming and diving's Matt Pelletier has been named the American University Student-Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO. Pelletier, a public communications major at American, had three consecutive days of great swimming at the University of Virginia Invitational over the weekend, recording two lifetime-bests, three unshaved lifetime-bests, and two all-time AU Top-10 times.

On Thursday, the senior from Strongsville, Ohio, set an unshaved lifetime-best in the 50 freestyle preliminaries, finishing in a time of 20.95 seconds.  He would come back in the finals of the 50 free and place fourth overall.

In Friday's competition, he continued his strong weekend, finishing third overall in the 100 backstroke in a time of 50.19.  In addition, he swam the 10th fastest time in school history in the 100 butterfly with a time of 50.92 seconds.

He finished up his weekend on Saturday, first in the 200 backstroke preliminaries, where he recorded an unshaved lifetime-best in a time of 1:52.17.  Later, in the 200 back finals, he placed fourth overall with a time of 1:51.10, which improved on his own seventh-fastest time in school history.

Pelletier now appears on the school's All-Time Top-10 list four times, including holding the school-records in the 100 backstroke and 50 freestyle.
