Sophomore Stephen
Lumpkins has been named the American University
Student-Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO, earning the award
for the first time in his career. Lumpkins recorded back-to-back
double-doubles while leading American to victories over Navy and
Lafayette and the fourth seed in the Patriot League Tournament.
On Wednesday, the sophomore scored 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting
in the Eagles' 80-77 double-overtime win at Navy. Lumpkins also
grabbed 11 rebounds, dished out three assists, blocked two shots
and registered one steal while going 5-of-7 from the line. In
American's 78-60 win over Lafayette on Saturday, Lumpkins notched a
career-high 24 points on 11-of-13 shooting and grabbed 12 rebounds.
His 84.6 percent shooting from the field marked the highest
single-game performance for an Eagle since 2008. He also registered
two assists and one block.
For the week, Lumpkins averaged 22.5 ppg, 11.5 rpg, 2.5 apg and
1.5 bpg. He shot 79.2 percent from the field and went 7-of-11 from
the line. This is Lumpkins' first career American University
Student-Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO honor.
