Moldoveanu Named Student-Athlete of the Week Presented by GEICO

Men's basketball student-athlete Vlad Moldoveanu has been selected as the American University Student-Athlete of the Week presented by GEICO.   Moldoveanu led American to a 2-0 week as the Eagles moved into second place of the Patriot League standings.

Moldoveanu scored a career-high 37 points on Wednesday in American's 69-59 victory over Navy, shooting 10-of-17 from the floor, 3-of-6 from three and 14-of-15 from the line.  The junior also grabbed nine rebounds and one assist.  Moldoveanu's 37 points marked the highest single-game output for a Patriot League student-athlete since the 2007-2008 season and the most points scored by an American student-athlete since Andre Ingram, '07, scored 37 on February 19, 2005.  His 14 free throws are tied for the eighth most free throws made in a single game in program history.

In Saturday's 76-66 victory against first-place Lafayette, Moldoveanu led all scorers with 21 points.  He was 7-of-12 from the floor, 2-of-6 from three and 5-of-6 from line while adding six rebounds, one assist and one steal.

For the week, Moldoveanu averaged 29.0 ppg, 7.5 rpg and 1.0 apg.  He shot an impressive 58.6 percent from the floor, 41.7 percent from three and 90.5 percent from the line. This is his third American University Student-Athlete of the Week award of the season.

The men's basketball team will return to action on Saturday, February 6, when it hosts Lehigh in Bender Arena.  Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m.
