Wrestling’s Mike Cannon, Kyle Borshoff and Steve Fittery have been named the
American University Student-Athletes of the Week presented by
GEICO. All three earned All-America status this past weekend at the
2010 NCAA Wrestling Championships while helping American to a
program-best 14th place finish.
Cannon placed third at 184 lbs., marking the third consecutive
year the senior has been named an All-American. Cannon's finish at
this year's tournament is the highest he has ever placed at the
NCAA Championships after taking sixth at 165 lbs. in 2008 and
eighth at 174 lbs. in 2009. Cannon is one of just 13
student-athletes under the NCAA's current weight class structure to
earn the honor at three different weight classes.
Borshoff placed eighth at 149 lbs. to earn All-America status
for a second straight year. The senior, along with Cannon and Josh Glenn (’08), is one of only
three student-athletes in American history to earn multiple
All-America honors after placing seventh in 2009.
Fittery placed fifth at 157 lbs. to bring to a close to a
stellar first year with the Eagles. Fittery, who made his NCAA
Division I Championships debut at this year's tournament, was a
two-time Division II All-American at Shippensburg University where
he finished as the national runner-up in both 2007 and 2008.
The Eagles set a new program record by placing 14th
overall in the team standings. To read a full recap from the NCAA
