Men Place Third at Patriot League Championships, Kluth and Brochu Earn All-PL Honors

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The men ran an exceptional race to place third at the Patriot League Championships on Friday (Oct. 31), beating fourth-place Boston University by a single point. The team was led by a fifth-place performance by Kaden Kluth, who earned First-Team All-Patriot League honors. Shealyn Brochu placed 14th for Second Team All-Patriot League honors and was named PL Rookie of the Meet, leading the women to a seventh-place finish.

The men's third-place finish is the highest team finish for American at the Patriot League Championships since 2013. Their finishing placement was secured in the second half of the race, when they moved up from fourth to third and held off BU in the last 4k.

Kluth's fifth-place finish, completing the 8k course in 24:25.6, is the highest finish for an Eagle at the Patriot League Championships since 2012. Carver Morgan (25:13.1) and Cooper Michaud (25:20.5) followed in 22nd and 24th, respectively. Zack Zerbe stepped up to place 37th in a time of 25:48.3. Ty Parker rounded out the scoring, placing 43rd in 25:54.1.

Brochu's 14th-place finish in a 6k time of 21:21.5 marks the first Eagle on the women's side to earn All-Patriot League honors since 2021. Emma Colavito placed 42nd in 22:08.9, followed by Annie Ripol, who ran a 30-second PR of 22:31.8 to place 57th. Kate Riley was fourth for the Eagles, placing 64th in a time of 22:40.4. Zoe Rector rounded out the scoring in 69th, with a time of 22:49.3.

COACHES' CORNER
"We had a very good full team effort today at the championships," said head coach Sean Graham. "Our seniors, Kaden, Carver, and Cooper, led the way as our top three. Kaden battled up front with the lead pack of 10 closing into the top five as our low stick and securing a First Team Patriot League award. Carver locked himself within the next pack really well as our number two, with Cooper following his plan to a T, starting a little more conservatively then moving up very strongly from the mid-30s to the low 20s at the finish as our third man.

"The sophomores then took the reins from there — Zack, Ty, and Noah found each other in the middle of the race then moved well in the second half to secure a third place team finish. Zack fought very well the last 2k of the race to pass 18 people and Ty moved up seven spots over the last 4k.

"Even with a few athletes having challenging days, the strength of the team got us on the podium today. On paper, it wasn't our best day, but the work these guys have done together through this season showed that even with challenges, we still came out with a great podium finish for the team. I'm extremely proud of what the guys got done today!

"On the women's side, Shealyn's performance was nothing short of phenomenal.  The confidence and poise she showed on the biggest stage thus far was excellent, and the result she earned is extremely well deserved.

It was thrilling to see Annie have the day she did today. It was clear she was determined to have a great day. She moved up a good 15 places over the second half of the race and came away with a huge PR."

"With regionals coming up and some seniors stepping up, we are looking forward to another race on the same course in two weeks," said associate head coach Zach Prescott. "With Patriot League Rookie of the Year, a big group of scoring freshmen, and some excellent mid-distance potential, we are looking forward to the years to come!"
