Wrestling Wins Six Weight Classes at AU Round Robin

WASHINGTON - Many impressive performances were turned in by American University wrestling at the Eagles' own AU Round Robin, and AU came away with first-place finishes in six of 10 weight classes against visiting Maryland and VMI.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Both of AU's nationally ranked wrestlers remained undefeated for the season. No. 14 Kizhan Clarke (149) went 4-0 to improve to 8-0 this season, while No. 16 Tanner Harvey (184) posted a 3-0 record and now stands at 6-0 overall.
  • Clarke scored two technical falls, one 16-0, and two decisions for his four victories.
  • Harvey's three wins included two by fall, one of those in 36 seconds. His third win by technical fall was an 18-0 final score.
  • Niko Camacho also posted his second straight win in as many meets, defeating the two heavyweight competitors from both Maryland and VMI to go 2-0 and improve to 5-0 this year.
  • After placing second last weekend, Gage Curry (125) took down four opponents for a win today. Curry's wins included a 26 second fall, a 46 second fall and a 15-5 major decision over Maryland's Jarod Kosman.
  • Sal Profaci, who took third in the Battle at The Citadel, also went undefeated at 3-0 to win his weight class. Profaci had a win by fall over Maryland's Quinn Devaney and an 11-0 major decision over Maryland's Hunter Baxter.
  • The final win came from Abraham Correa-Medina who went 3-1 at 197, including one win by fall.
  • Tim Fitzpatrick and Michael Lewis took second and third, respectively, at 165.
  • Another runner-up finish came from Daniel Kidd (133) who went 2-1 overall.
HEAD COACH TEAGUE MOORE
  • "It was absolutely a strong day for us. Just seeing us against Maryland and VMI, I felt like it was a really good day. We all got what we wanted which was to see all our guys compete, gather some information, and now we have work to do."
  • "One (non-starter) I was really impressed with was Josh Vega at 125. He has a really tough time in practice and takes it on the chin quite a bit. To get two wins today was awesome. I'm ecstatic for him."
  • "It's easy to come out of a competition like this and think that things are better than what they really might be. The big thing about Kizhan and what I love in coaching him - he keeps things very grounded. He might have won his matches in a dominant fashion, but the first thing he says when he comes off is 'what can I do better.' He's a great guy to work with because even though he gets his hand raised, he doesn't walk away thinking he's on top."
UP NEXT
  • AU will take one weekend off and return to action at the Navy Classic on Nov. 23.
