Rinehardt Claims 2nd PL Championship, Koch Breaks School Record

After waiting nearly two years between winning Patriot League Championships, Octavia Rinehardt captured her second in as many days with a victory in the 3,000 meter run Sunday on the final day of competition at the 2011 Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Rinehardt posted a winning time of 9:59.45 in the 3,000, one day removed from her victory in the 5,000 meter. The junior strode through the line nearly five seconds ahead of the second-place finisher to capture her second All-Patriot League First Team honor of the meet and third conference championship of her career. Rinehardt also won the 5,000 at the 2009 outdoor championships.

American also crowned two All-Patriot League Second Team selections on Sunday in seniors Erin Koch and Colin Eustis. Koch placed second in the mile run and set a new school record in the process, crossing the line in an ECAC qualifying time of 4:46.19. Koch broke the previous record of 4:47.31 set on March 5, 2005 by four-time All-American Keira Carlstrom '06.

Eustis, meanwhile, took second in the men's 3,000 with an IC4A qualifying time of 8:16.35. He was joined in the event by Josh Olsen and Jeff Brannigan who took fifth and seventh, respectively, with IC4A times of 8:22.65 and 8:27.17.

In the men's mile, both Brannigan and Craig Brown eclipsed the IC4A standard with times of 4:11.55 and 4:12.70. Brannigan broke the tape in fourth place while Brown took home sixth. Conor Sullivan also posted an IC4A qualifying time on Sunday of 2:28.74 to place seventh in the 1,000.

Rounding out American's top performances was the men's distance medley relay team of Sullivan, Brannigan, Chris Tonn and Brown. The quartet placed sixth in the event with an IC4A qualifying time of 10:09.70.

American placed fifth overall in the men's team standings with 29.5 points while the women took eighth with 28 points. The Eagles will open their 2011 outdoor schedule with a trip to the Coastal Carolina Invitational March 11-12.
