WASHINGTON –– Rounding out head coach Sean Graham's staff is Dentarius Locke. Locke will serve primarily as a sprints coach for the track team; Locke brings coaching experience from the Power Four's Pitt as well as Georgia State University.

"Coach Locke is a phenomenal addition to our staff and program and has already had an immediate positive impact in his first few days," said coach Graham. "He has experience developing athletes to great levels of performance as well as guiding elite athletes to the highest level of championship competition. His elite level experience in his own training and racing career along with his meticulous eye for detail in coaching will be a remarkable benefit to our athletes and their path to success at every level."
 
Locke joins American from Pitt, where he has been an assistant coach since December of 2023. Before Pitt, Locke was an assistant coach at Georgia State University.
 
Locke had an illustrious collegiate career at Tennessee and Florida State. A six time All-American, Locke received his first two honors during his freshman campaign in Knoxville, when he became an All-American in the indoor 60m and outdoor 200m and received SEC Freshman of the Year honors. The following season, the Tampa native returned to his home state, earning All-American status as a member of Florida State's 4x400m relay team. In 2013, the 4x400m relay team Locke was a part of placed third at the NCAA Indoors and set a still-standing school record of 3:05.13. Also in 2013, Locke broke the 10-second barrier in the 100m at 9.96 seconds. Locke was also the 2014 NCAA 60-meter dash Indoor National Champion with a time of 6.52-a. After graduation, Locke became a Nike athlete.
