WASHINGTON –– American University recent graduate Carver Morgan spent his summer chasing USA Track and Field Outdoor National Championships qualifying in the men's 800 meter and with a time of 1:45.43, he did just that. The USATF Championships will be held in Icahn Stadium in New York City from July 23-26, starting at 11:30 a.m. on the 23rd.
 
"Qualifying for the US National Championships is a great achievement for Carver," said head coach Sean Graham. "His development in our program over the last four years from a 1:54 guy to now one of the top 800m athletes in the nation at 1:45 is a testament to his hard work, consistency, and confidence is his own ability and the process it took to get there. He's certainly experienced great success but also had his fair share of challenges along that path as well, learning to manage both and continue to grow. I'm incredibly proud of the athlete he has become and am thrilled he has earned this opportunity to compete at the highest level of our sport nationally."
 
The preliminary round of the men's 800m will be held on Friday, July 24 with finals, if Morgan advances, set to take place on Sunday, July 26. Earlier this summer, Morgan raced in the finals at the NCAA East Region First Round with a time of 1:47.24. A few weeks later, on Jun 7, at the Adrian Martinez Classic in Concord, Mass., Morgan raced a personal best of 1:45.43 which would ultimately be the time that qualifies him for the USATF Championships.
 
At the NCAA East First Round Morgan, placed 12th in the qualifying round in 1:47.03, and then ran 1:47.24 in the quarterfinal to finish 17th, the highest finish for an Eagle since 2019. The senior finished off his AU career as a four-time Patriot League 800 meter champion, 2026 indoor DMR champion, and program record-holder in the indoor and outdoor 800 meters, outdoor 4x800 relay, and outdoor DMR.

Morgan contributed to the Eagles' fourth-place championship DMR at the historic Penn Relays and was a consistent scorer on the cross country course. The senior helped lead the Eagles to a third-place finish at the Patriot League Cross Country Championships, their highest finish since 2013. Last spring, Morgan, along with classmate Kaden Kluth, was the Eagles' first qualifiers for the NCAA East First Round since 2019. In four years at AU, Morgan has clocked dozens of top-10 times for the program, cementing himself as a staple on the all-time lists.
 
The 800m preliminary round will begin at 7:02 p.m. on Friday evening with finals set to start at 4:33 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
