WASHINGTON – American University field hockey coach
Steve Jennings has announced the addition of two more to the incoming freshmen class of 2023. Two international recruits,
Sophie Willemse (Oisterwijk, The Netherlands / 2College Durendael) and
Emilia Winkler (Berlin, Germany / Kant-Oberschule) will join the Eagles squad this fall. Along with the eight incoming student-athletes announced in May, these two additions amount to a total of 10 fresh faces on the roster this season.
"We are super excited to add two late additions to our roster—Sophie and Emilia will fit in perfectly with an incredible freshman class and we look forward to working and growing together," said Jennings.

Why she Chose American: I chose the AU as it convinced me both academically and athletically. Its international student body and great academics as well as its location directly in Washington DC, seem very appealing to me. Also, the field hockey team is exactly what I am looking for, both on a performance and human level. The coaches are really kind and supportive with loads of experience in the field.
