ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The American University track team started strong on the first day of the Patriot League Championships at Navy. Sophomore
Lorelei Bangit broke her own school records in the prelims of the 400 meters and 200 meters. She qualified for the final in both, running 55.21 seconds in the 400 and 24.81 seconds in the 200.
Including Bangit, four Eagles qualified for finals tomorrow. Junior
Kaden Kluth qualified in the mile, placing eighth in the prelim in 4:07.46. Junior
Carver Morgan dominated the 800 meter prelim, winning in 1:50.65 to easily move onto the final. Freshman
Tamara Dorval tied her school record in the 60 meters to qualify for the final.
- In the men's 5k final, junior Cooper Michaud ran a personal best of 14:36.19 to place ninth. Sophia Staiger placed 19th in the women's 5k in 18:14.72.
- Freshman Zoe Clark moved up to second AU all-time in the 400 meters, placing 11th with a PR of 57.36 seconds. Freshman Lara Gin was just off her personal bests, running 57.90 to place 14th.
- Senior Danny O'Neill ran a personal best of 4:13.28 in the mile to place 11th, just one place off of qualifying for the final.
- Freshman Brandon Williams ran a personal best of 22.30 in the 200 meters to place 17th. He moved up his second AU all-time mark. He also added his name to the 400 top-10 list with a time of 50.47, fourth fall-time or the Eagles.
- The women's sprints squad rewrote the top-10 list in the 200 meters in the prelims of the event. All six athletes ran personal bests. Clark, coming back from the 400, moved up to second all-time in the 200 with a PR of 25.37. Junior Chloee Dotts ran a PR of 25.51 to move up to third all-time. Sophomore Ciera Thacker now ranks fourth all-time with her PR of 25.52. Dorval and Gin ran PRs of 26.31 and 26.35, good for sixth and seventh all-time.
- The men's 4x800 squad of Barak Goldstein, O'Neill, Zack Zerbe, and Ty Parker placed fourth in 7:46.73. The women's 4x800 of Kate Riley, Grace Kirk, Lucia Ianello, and Kirah Tianga placed eighth in 9:25.41, 10th AU all-time.
The Eagles will be back in action for day two of the Patriot League Championships tomorrow (Mar. 2). Kluth will race the men's mile at 12:02pm. Bangit will race the 400 final at 12:39 p.m. and the 200 final at 1:59 p.m. Dorval will race the 60 meter final at 12:53 p.m. Morgan will race the 800 final at 12:58 p.m. The 3k squad will also race tomorrow, with the men's race at 2:06 p.m. and the women's race at. 2:26 p.m. American will have squads in the distance medley relay and 4x400 relay to close out the meet tomorrow afternoon.
