Two School Records Fall for Swim & Dive on Day One of the Patriot League Championships

LEWISBURG, Pa. - For a second year in a row, two school records fell on the women's side on day one of the Patriot League Championships for American University swimming & diving. Both the 200 medley relay and 800 freestyle relay teams finished with the top times in program history, and the 200 medley group took an impressive finish of fourth place.

Notable
  • With a time of 1:40.37, the foursome of sophomore Lian Jeong Engle, grad student Mimi Watts, freshman Marin Priddy and freshman Piper Crosby broke their own school record from November in the women's 200 medley relay. The group finished in fourth place, up two spots from the same event for AU in the last two years.
  • Later in the evening, senior Katie Yoo, junior Isabel McGovern, sophomore Kate Williams and freshman Demetra Bicos teamed up for a new record in the 800 free relay with a time of 7:34.51. It was exactly a second faster than the previous record set a year ago, which also included McGovern, Yoo, and Williams.
  • The men's 200 medley relay team of senior Aidan Delehanty, junior Colin Clough, junior Daniel Coughlin, and sophomore Connor Florence was just seven-hundredths of a second off the school-record time, taking seventh place in 1:30.10 which ranks fourth-best all-time at American.
  • In the final race of the night, the men's 800 freestyle relay team of freshman Luke Martens, sophomore Lucas Standridge, sophomore Brent Hinckley, and freshman Zachary Rothman, posted the third-best time in school history of 6:42.33.
  •  Two Eagles participated in the first diving event of the championships, the women's 3-meter. Junior Peyton Thurman scored a 218.60, earning five points for AU in the C final.
  • After one day of the championships, the women stand in seventh place overall while the men are in ninth.
