Leo Maestas won three matches in a row to give their team a lead.
Hunter Hohman and
Caleb Campos delivered crucial points as well, rounding out the program's first-ever win over the Big Ten foe.

Notable
- An early takedown from Nick Corday scored the only points of the 125 bout, with JJ Peace falling 3-0.
- Leete got AU on the board at 133, scoring all of his seven of his points in the third period against Caleb Weiand. He opened the frame with an escape, then attacked with two takedowns to earn the 7-3 win.
- The momentum of the dual began to swing towards AU at 141 and 149, as American's two wrestlers from California dominated their way to bonus points.
- The senior Lopez secured four takedowns on his way to a 16-4 major decision of Jaden Crumpler, then Leo Maestas locked up his first dual meet pin of his career.
- Trailing 6-5 early in the third period, the freshman came out on top of a scramble and worked to keep Clayton Jones' shoulders on the mat for the fall. The west coast connection had collected 10 points for the Eagles.
- The Spartans responded with victories via decision at 157 and 165 to narrow the score to 13-9, adding an exclamation point to Hunter Hohman's first dual win of the season at 174.
- The sophomore trailed 1-0 with 35 seconds remaining in the third period, then worked his way out from under Connor O'Neil to pull off a clutch pin late. He was given another point through a stall warning to O'Neil, winning the match 4-1.
- Caleb Campos followed Hohman with AU's third bonus point victory at 184, cruising to a 10-0 major decision of Cory Thomas.

- AU will travel to nearby Mount Pleasant to take on Central Michigan and CSU Bakersfield in the Chippewa Challenge tri-meet on Sunday. The Eagles will face off against the Roadrunners first at 11 a.m., and the Chippewas second at 3 p.m.
