FAIRFAX, Va. – On Saturday, the American University track team headed over to George Mason Stadium to compete in the Dalton Ebanks Memorial Invitational.
- Freshman sprinter Fernando Ibarra has moved up on the men's 100m dash top-10 list, now sitting in second place with his 10.88s finish.
- In the women's 400m hurdles, Kirah Tianga was just under a second behind her finish last week when she raced the event for the first time. Joining her this week was junior Cassandra Daniele and senior Eva Gibson who each ran the event for the first time in their respective careers.
- In the men's and women's 200m races, sprinters Ibarra and Chloee Dotts each had impressive showings. Ibarra and Dotts both recorded times less than a second slower than their PRs that put each of them on the top-10 lists. Ibarra is fourth and Dotts currently holds the school record.
- Dotts also matched her best time in the 400m race, the one that puts her at eighth all-time on the schools top-10 list.
- The next personal record (PR) performance of the day was from sophomore Lucia Ianello who, in the 800m run paced the AU pack and crossed in 2:20.92.
- Freshman Kate Riley ran her first 3000m steeplechase, jumping into her first water pit, and sits at third on the school's top-10 record book list with her 11:47.36 finish.
- Finishing the long day out strong was the distance crew. Callia Cordasco recorded a five second PR in the women's 1500m race as the chill of the evening settled in over the track, and so did her fellow Eagle, freshman Rowe Crawford.
- In the men's 1500m race Nathan Reeves and Tucker Zullo finished in third and fourth place respectively overall, each just missing out on their PRs. Danny O'Neill though, who ran the race as well, earned a personal best for himself.
- All three Eagles in the women's 5000m race earned themselves personal bests. Skyler Tatum, Annie Ripol, and Brooke Evans each topped themselves when they finished 15th, 19th, and 21st overall.
- Closing out the night, was Row Sullivan with a five second PR in the men's 5000m race, coming in sixth overall. Sophomore Oscar Counsell ran in the second heat, crossing the line first with a big lead over the next finisher in the heat.
QUOTES FROM COACH GRAHAM
"Across the entire team we had a very good meet at George Mason this weekend," said head coach Sean Graham. "Everyone competed very aggressively. In doing so we came away with a few heat wins, a lot of big PRs and a great experience as we head into the latter part of the regular season.
"Our sprinters started off the day with strong performances from Chloee Dotts and Fernando Ibarra yet again, as well as Brian Gutro with a couple of season bests," he continued. "In the women's distance events, Callia Cordasco ran a big PR with aggressive moves and a confident close to win her 1500m heat, Kate Riley had a nice debut in the steeplechase, placing her third all time already, and the 5000m had all three women (Skyler Tatum, Annie Ripol, and Brooke Evans) PRing.
"For the men, Tucker Zullo and Nate Reeves ran solid 1500s that should set them up well in the future. Row Sullivan and Oscar Counsell had very solid 5000s. Sullivan lowering their PR once again and Counsell in only his second 5000m ran away from the field in his heat after only 2000m, leading the rest of the race by a big margin for a big PR and a definitive heat win.
"We'll have two weeks of training before we go back at it again!"
