Track Looks to Build on Impressive Outdoor Start at Colonial Relays

WASHINGTON – The American University track team will be heading west to Williamsburg to take part in the 57th annual Colonial Relays hosted by William & Mary Friday, March 31-Saturday, April 1.
 
COLONIAL RELAYS – MEET INFORMATION NOTES
  • Five members of the Eagles are coming back from the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C where five members ran solid performances across the board, the rest of the squad has had a bye-week since they ran at the Fred Hardy Invite two weeks prior.
  • In Raleigh, Row Sullivan ran the 5000 m in 14:33.0, finishing 113th out of over 200 competitors. They will be shortening their distance, on the line in the men's 800m race.
  • Also in Raleigh, Kaden Kluth ran the men's 800m race, pulling through to finish in 41st place in 1:51.69. Following Kluth was Nathan Reeves and Tucker Zullo, less than a second apart, and Ethan Puc recording 1:55:17 for the race. Kluth's time puts him at number nine in the school's top-10 performances list for the 800m. Kluth will be on the line in the men's 1500m race and will take part in the DMR on Saturday.
  • Last time out, sophomore Danny O'Neill taking to the track for the men's 3000m steeplechase. O'Neill came in second overall, claiming the spot with his 9:51.28 finish, beating his previous best time in the event by almost twenty seconds. He will be on the starting line again for the event on Friday.
  • Freshmen sprinter Chloee Dotts is already excelling in outdoor track just one meet in, having finished ninth in the 400m event. She now sits at eighth place in American's outdoor track record books, coming in at 1:00.90. Dotts will be on the line in the 100m and then the 200m sprints.
  • Classmate and fellow sprinter, Fernando Ibarra also had an impressive showing last time out in Richmond, getting a record book altering time (22.66s) with his third-place finish in the men's 200m dash to be seventh in the books. Ibarra will be on the line in the men's 100m and 200m dash events and will take part in the 1600 sprint medley relay as well.
  • June Mwaniki hasn't missed a step in the indoor to outdoor transition and set a personal best in the women's 5000m run when she finished in second place at the Invitational in Richmond two weeks prior. With her new 11 second PR, she also added her name to the record books again, sitting herself at sixth overall on the list of top-10 performers with her 17:13.92 finish. Mwaniki will go longer this time out, running in the 10000m event Friday night.
  • Other top performers to keep an eye on this weekend are Carver Morgan, who las ran in the men's 800m, coming across the line first in his heat and finishing fifth overall and Kate Riley, who also finished first in her heat in the women's 15000m, crossing the line with a PR and an 18th place finish overall.
