WASHINGTON – Cross country and track head coach
Sean Graham has announced the promotion of both
Tyra Massey and
Zach Prescott to Associate Head Coach. Massey has been at the helm of the sprints program as an assistant coach since August of 2021, and Prescott has been the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the distance program since August of 2022.
"The drive, hard work, care and accomplishment that Coach Prescott and Coach Massey have given to our student athletes and program over the last four to five years has been phenomenal," said Graham. "I'm thrilled that it is not only seen by our team and me day in and day out but also now recognized formally by the athletic department and university. Tyra and Zach have grown phenomenally as coaches and leaders of our athletes on and off the track, and I'm grateful that I get to work with and learn from them daily as we push this team forward."
The sprints program at AU has grown and seen significant success under Massey's leadership. Tasked with overseeing the construction of the sprints program, Massey has seen athletes rewrite the record books from the 60 meters to the 4x400 relay, including setting 22 program records in her first four years at AU. Her athletes hold six of the top 10 times in the outdoor women's 200 and six of the top 10 in the indoor women's 200. In her time at AU, the sprints program has earned five Patriot League medals, including three silver medals for
Lorelei Bangit in the indoor and outdoor 400 meters. Freshman
Tamara Dorval earned Patriot League points both indoors and outdoors, placing 5th in the indoor 60 meters and 4th in the outdoor 100 meters, and setting program records in both events.
Now in his fourth year with the program, Prescott has seen the women's cross country program run several personal bests in the 6k. Last year, he helped the AU distance women run 24 top-10 times in the indoor and outdoor track seasons, while the men's and women's distance program ran a total of 40 new top-10 times and 132 personal bests. On the men's side,
Kaden Kluth earned a Patriot League title in the 1500 and
Carver Morgan earned titles in the indoor and outdoor 800; both were the first Eagles to qualify for the NCAA East First Round since 2019, with Kluth placing 37th in the 1500 and Morgan placing 26th in the 800. On the recruiting side, Prescott has managed recruiting for the 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026 classes.
In the classroom, 35 track student-athletes were named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in last year's spring season, one off their program record set in 2024. Bangit was named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team in both the indoor and outdoor seasons in 2025.
