WASHINGTON – The College Sports Communicators organization annually recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the track, in the field, and in the classroom. Sophomore sprinter
Lorelei Bangit is adding another accolade to her career having earned Academic All-District team recognition.
Earlier this spring, Bangit was honored to the Outdoor Track Academic All-Patriot League team for the second time. Combining honors for indoor and outdoor track, Bangit has so far been honored twice as a Patriot League Academic Honor Roll selection as well.
At the Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field Championships in May, Bangit earned silver in the 400 in a program-best 54.00 seconds, smashing the record she herself set the previous day in prelims. She broke her own school records four times over the course of the two day meet–twice each in the 400m and 200m dashes. She came back to place fourth in the 200m finals in 24.21 seconds. Bangit then anchored the women's 4x100m relay team that earned a bronze, third-place medal and broke another school record, bringing her total to five records over the course of the meet. The relay squad set the new school benchmark at 46.22.
Bangit, seeking a bachelor's degree in early childhood education, holds a cumulative GPA of 3.81 and was the sole recipient of an award from the School of Education at the SASP Awards held in April. She also volunteers her time as a track coach at a local middle school.
