BOSTON – Seniors
Kaden Kluth and
Carver Morgan opened the indoor track season early at the Boston University Opener in Boston, Mass., on Saturday (Dec. 6.).
Kluth, coming off the program's highest individual Patriot League cross country finish since 2012, ran his first ever collegiate 3k on Saturday. He broke the eight-minute barrier for the first time, running 7:57.51 to place 15th in his heat and 16th overall in the 124-person event. The mark was less than a second off AU's program record of 7:56.85, set by Sean Duffy in 2005.
Morgan, also coming off a strong cross country season, has only raced the 3,000 meters once before in his college career, in December of 2022. He smashed his previous PR at BU on Saturday, running 8:11.95 to place 17th in his heat and 60th overall. The effort puts him at seventh AU all-time.

Coaches' Corner
"The guys ran well today," said head coach
Sean Graham. "It can be a bit of a toss up getting on the track at the tail end of the cross country season, and we came up well in the positive on that bet.
"Kaden debuting in the 3k in 7:57 is really very good. He'll say it, and so will I: He made some tactical errors in there that cost him a good four to five seconds overall. But, as a whole, that's a hell of a performance at this time of year with no experience in the event. AU standout Sean Duffy's record survived by one second, but I think that may have limited life left in it!
"Carver ran a big PR, but also was challenged by some specific decision points in the race. He put himself in a great position through the mile, then slipped a little in concentration after that. Again, a 35-second PR is a nice way to close out the cross country season.
"These guys had a great fall, this meet was a nice way to close it out and spark some excitement for the indoor and outdoor seasons to come. For now, they're taking a well deserved break — as will the coaches! I'm very grateful for their commitment and hard work this fall. They put in so much time and care with our athletes that can go unseen. So a very big thank you to Zach, Madison, and Tyra!"
