The American University volleyball team will take on North
Carolina this Sunday, Sept. 20th, at 2 p.m. in Bender
Arena, in a rematch of last year's NCAA Tournament First Round.
The Eagles enter the match coming off an impressive straight-set
victory against cross-town rival Howard on Tuesday night at Bender
Arena. Junior Angelina
Waterman led American with 13 kills while senior Claire
Recht recorded two block assists, bringing her career
total to 238 and moving her into fourth place all-time at American.
Waterman currently leads the team in kills per set and service
aces, with 3.68 and 13, respectively. Recht leads the team in
blocks, averaging 0.76 per set, while freshman Krysta
Cicala has impressed in her first ten matches, leading
the team in assists with 9.75 per set.
The Tar Heels dropped two of three games over the weekend to
fall to 4-5 overall. Senior Heather Brooks leads the team in kills
with 2.34 per set and sophomore Aleksandra Georgieva leads the team
defensively, averaging 2.70 digs per set. North Carolina defeated
American in the first round of last year's NCAA Tournament, 3-0 at
Bender Arena. The Eagles are 0-6 in their all-time series with the
Heels.
