BALTIMORE, Md. - The American University volleyball team defeated Loyola Maryland in straight sets on Sunday afternoon, winning its third match in a row and moving to 3-1 in Patriot League play. The Eagles hit above .300 for the fifth time this season, and Sophie Dufour logged her fourth double-double of the season.

Notable
  • Dufour's double-double came via 16 kills and 10 digs, while Salme Adeele Hollas followed with nine kills and a team-leading 13 digs.
  • Prinzez Zeck and Elise Sterling had strong performances up front, each hitting efficiently. Zeck posted nine kills and hit .533, while Sterling had eight and hit .471.
  • Deniz Dakak logged 39 assists, bringing her Patriot League-leading total up to 511.
  • The Eagles are now 10-4 overall.
  • This was AU's seventh sweep of the season.
How it Happened
  • The first set was the closest of the afternoon, requiring extra points.
  • AU took the lead early at 8-7 and stayed in front until Loyola used a 6-2 run to tie the score 19-19.
  • The teams traded blows down the stretch, and the longest rally of the frame ended in a Kacy Sekunda kill that tied the match 24-24.
  • After a Loyola timeout, AU benefited from a service error and an attack error to take the set 26-24. Dufour had five kills, and Zeck followed with four in a resilient set from the Eagles.
  • American carried momentum from the narrow first set victory to the second set, taking it 25-14 with little trouble. The Eagles went on a 9-1 run at the end of the frame, highlighted by four Hollas kills. They hit .567, compared to a .163 percentage in the first set.
  • AU stayed in control in the third set, as Dufour caught fire with six kills. The Greyhounds cut the lead down to three late at 24-21, but a kill by Hollas sealed the deal.
