The American University volleyball team lost to William &
Mary Tuesday night, 3-1, in Bender Arena. Magdalena
Tekiel scored 16 kills while Angelina
Waterman added 12 but it was not enough as the Tribe
took the victory by set scores to 25-16, 25-19, 17-25 and 25-20.
American (9-10, 3-2) struggled to find a rhythm early and
trailed 10-4 in the first frame following a 7-1 William & Mary
(12-7, 4-1) run. The Tribe continued its solid play throughout the
set, never letting the Eagles get closer than three points on the
scoreboard, en route to taking the set, 25-16. The second set was
much of the same as William & Mary built up an eight point
advantage, 19-11, before earning set point, 25-19.
The Eagles rebounded in the third set and scored 12 of the final
16 points to earn the victory, 25-17. American put together three
separate runs of three points or more in the frame, including a 7-0
stretch which included two Claire
Recht service aces and two Tekiel kills. William &
Mary, however, regained control of the match in the fourth set and
took match points, 25-20.
Tekiel scored a match-high 16 kills and added seven digs.

block assists. Cynammon
Burns tallied 18 digs while Cassandra
