WASHINGTON –– American University cross country will open their season on Saturday (Sep. 5) at the Richmond Spider Alumni Open in Mechanicsville, Va. The meet will be an opportunity to test their fitness and prepare for a second September meet at Penn State on Sep. 11.
Both squads will open the season in shorter distances than their usual cross country races, with the men running a 6k and the women running a 4k, both on a 2k loop.
American enters the season under head coach
Sean Graham, in his 10th year leading the Eagles. Graham will be aided by assistant coach Jordyn Pugh who is starting her first year with the Eagles after five years in Baltimore as an assistant coach with Loyola Md.

Last season when the Eagles raced this meet both the men and the women finished in fourth place. The men's top three returning performers from that meet are
Noah Smith,
Zack Zerbe and
Jaden Frederick. On the women's side,
Shealyn Brochu,
Emma Colavito, and
Zoe Rector were the top three AU performers at the meet that are returning to the squad. Brochu finished 10th overall with a time of 13:53.6.
