WASHINGTON – American women's basketball head coach
Kelly Killion announced the hiring of
Robert Isme as an associate head coach on Thursday. Isme comes to the Eagles from Dartmouth where he was the team's assistant coach and recruiting coordinator in June of 2023 and was promoted to Associate Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator in June of 2024.
"Robert is a tremendous addition to our Eagle family," said Killion on Isme's hiring. "His leadership and dedication to developing young people is second to none. I've watched him from afar as competitors in the Ivy League and I have always respected Rob's work ethic. Our young women will benefit greatly from his mentorship on and off the court. We are fortunate to have his wonderful family join our program and we look forward to a bright future together!"
Before joining the Big Green, Isme most spent two seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at St. Francis Brooklyn following a lengthy stint at his alma mater, New York Institute of Technology (NYIT). During the 2021-22 season, Isme helped guide the Terriers to a program-best 13 conference victories. The 17-win campaign also featured an upset of Michigan State, which marked St. Francis Brooklyn's first Power Five triumph in program history.
At NYIT, Isme was a men's basketball assistant coach from 2008-15 before serving as the Division II program's interim head coach for the 2015-16 season. He then joined NYIT's women's program as an assistant coach and helped guide the Bears to a 2018-19 conference championship, plus a pair of NCAA Tournament bids.
"I chose American University because of its strong commitment to excellence in athletics and its supportive, family-oriented community," said Isme on his appointment to Killion's staff.
