Inside the Series
- AU is 6-0 against Brown all-time, dating back to 2006. The last matchup between the two squads came in 2020, an 18-16 win for the Eagles.
What to Know about American
- AU is coming off a challenging road trip in which the team wrestled in two dual meets in one day last Friday, January 31. The Eagles traveled to Philadelphia, Pa. for a dual with Drexel at 12 p.m., then took about an hour bus ride to Bethlehem, Pa. for a matchup with Lehigh later that night at 7 p.m. AU fell 32-6 to Drexel, and 36-6 to Lehigh.
- Redshirt freshman Kaden Milheim and graduate senior #32 Will Jarrell had victories against Drexel, but the highlight of the day came through a Caleb Campos pin of Lehigh's Rylan Rogers. Trailing 8-6 with 40 seconds remaining, Campos gained the lead 9-8 with a takedown. Staying on the offensive, Campos kept Rogers' shoulders on the mat and secured the pin 13 seconds before the final buzzer. The fall was Campos' fourth of the year, and the win put him one behind Jarrell for the team lead (17).
- AU had a pair of individual champions last weekend at the Edinboro Open, as freshman JJ Peace and senior Maximillian Leete both won their weight classes on Saturday, February 2. Peace's 4-0 day included two tech falls, and Leete's 5-0 day included two major decisions and two pins.
- AU hosted the Chippewa Challenge quad meet the last time the team competed at Bender Arena, going 1-2 on the day with a win over Central Michigan 21-13, and losses to CSU Bakersfield 28-9 and to eventual champion Campbell 18-14. Junior Raymond Lopez had a dominant 3-0 day on his home mat.
- Lopez has been excellent in duals for the Eagles this season, posting a team-best 9-3 record and team-leading 43 points scored. His 15 overall wins tie him with Caleb Campos for second most on the team, and the junior also recorded his 13th career fall at the F&M Open this year to move into 14th in program history.
- The Eagles pulled off a dramatic 20-19 victory in their last single dual meet at Bender Arena, coming back from down 16-3 to get the win over Harvard. Will Jarrell finished off the comeback with a 15-1 major decision over Harvard's Hudson Skove in the day's final bout to tie the score, and AU took the 20-19 lead via criteria.
- AU had two wrestlers earn spots on the first NCAA Coaches' Poll of the year, released on January 23: #33 Caleb Campos at 174, and #32 Will Jarrell at 285.
- The Eagles went 8-14 in dual meets last season, but 0-5 against EIWA opponents.
