Kaitlyn Lewis Returns to American as Women's Basketball Assistant Coach

WASHINGTON – A new assistant coach has hit the ground running for head coach Tiffany Coll's women's basketball staff. A 2019 graduate of AU, Kaitlyn Lewis, who returns to campus by way of Lehigh, is already making a positive impact on the court, in the office, and on the road recruiting.

"I am really excited to welcome Kaitlyn back to American," said Coach Coll. "No stranger to the Patriot League, Kaitlyn graduated from AU and won a Patriot League Championship. She has also been recently coaching at Lehigh. I look forward to working with her and ensuring a seamless transition."

Kaitlyn, or "KLew" as she is fondly known, brings a wealth of experience and success from her previous positions. She most recently completed her second season as an assistant coach at Lehigh, where she made an immediate impact mentoring two first team All-Patriot League honorees and the 2023 Patriot League Player of the Year.

Lewis is well versed in the Patriot League and American University. She was a standout guard for the Eagles, contributing significantly to the program over her four seasons. As a team captain, she led American to a Patriot League Championships and an NCAA Tournament bid her junior year and a Women's NIT bid her senior year.

Her playing career included starting 67 out of 115 games with impressive stats like averaging 11.9 points and 3.4 assists per game her senior season, totaling 101 assists for the season. In her senior season, Lewis went into double-figures eight times, including a career-best 24-point performance against Ohio.

"I could not be more excited to return to American University, a women's basketball program renowned for outstanding academic achievement, competitive excellence, and championship mentality," said Lewis. "I am eager to get started developing and empowering our current student-athletes. I also want to thank Coach Tiff for the opportunity to rejoin this dedicated and talented group of coaches and players. Go Eagles!"

Before her time at Lehigh, Lewis spent three successful seasons at the University of Scranton. There, she was integral to the Lady Royals' achievements, including a Sweet 16 appearance and multiple Landmark Conference championships. Her coaching helped players earn prestigious honors such as All-Region First Team and All-American designations. Lewis herself was recognized as a Top Thirty Under 30 honoree by the WBCA, which honors the top 30 coaches in the country under the age of 30.

Off the court, Lewis earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from AU in 2019, earning a spot on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll twice during her career (2017-18 and 2018-19). She also took part in the American University Elite Camp as a counselor for three years (2016-18) as well.

Lewis' return to American University is a homecoming, and her dedication, knowledge, and enthusiasm for the game will undoubtedly inspire and guide the program to new heights.
