Lexi Salazar have been named captains of American University women's basketball for the 2025-26 season. For all three student-athletes, this is each of their first honor leading the squad.
Driscoll comes into her sophomore season after a successful breakout freshman year in which she played in all 30 of the Eagles' games and accumulated a .353 field goal percentage. The point guard averaged 5.8 points per game and sank 22 shots from beyond the arc–tied for second most on the team.
"I'm excited to take on this role and help guide our team as we chase growth together," said Driscoll. "It's a privilege to play alongside such dedicated athletes and I can't wait to see what we accomplish this year."
Moore-Nicholson made a strong impression during her freshman season and summer workouts with her teammates and new coaches. Playing in 21 of the Eagles' 30 contests, she her first collegiate points, rebounds, and assists in her second game on the court as an Eagle against Longwood. The sophomore is expected to be a big-time player for the squad in her second season.
"Being a captain means showing up every day and choosing to commit everything I have to my team and myself, leading through my actions and effort on and off the court," said Moore-Nicholson. "I am incredibly thankful to my teammates for trusting me with this role. I'm grateful to be a part of this team and program, and I'm excited to see what this season brings for us!"
Salazar, the lone upperclassman captain, is the most experienced member of the group. Salazar was level with Driscoll in made threes on the season with 22. The two also match in three-point percentage, .259 from distance. The Illinoisan point guard is projected to have a big impact for AU both on the court and off it as a strong vocal supporter of all team member accomplishments.
"I am honored and grateful to be chosen to help lead the AU women's basketball program into this new era as team captain," said Salazar. "I am dedicated to building a strong culture of integrity, accountability, and respect. I wholeheartedly believe in what this program can become, and I cannot wait to see our team reach its full potential."
