Another Record Falls, 16 Top Times Added for Swim & Dive on Day Two of the Patriot Invitational

FAIRFAX, Va. - Another school record by the same foursome was one of the highlights of another strong day of competition for American University swimming & diving on day two of George Mason's Patriot Invitational. The Eagles earned three top-five finishes and added a total of 17 new times to the program's all-time top-16 list of personal bests.

Notable Women's Results
  • The same foursome who set a school record on night one in the 400 medley relay set another one on night two, this time in the 200 medley relay. Piper Crosby (backstroke), Marin Priddy (breaststroke), Mimi Watts (butterfly), and Lian Jeong Engle (freestyle) posted a second-place time of 1:41.13 which is over a second faster than AU's previous record set this past February.
  • AU's "B" team of Amaya Tomma, Grace Netz, Gabby Kaczorowski, and Dylan Moulton also made it onto the top 16 list, going 1:45.45 to rank 12th all-time.
  • Isabel McGovern advanced to the A final and earned an impressive second-place finish in the 100 butterfly in 55.49, just short of her PR of 55.15.
  • The Eagles had four others advance to finals in the 100 fly, including Tomma whose prelims time of 57.14 was a new PR that improved on her own 14th-fastest in program history.
  • Advancing to the C final in the 100 fly were Claire Mosher (PR of 57.73), Kaczorowski, and Rebecca Siegel.
  • Freshman Brooke Vos made it on to the top 16 list in the prelims of the 400 IM, and then smashed her time by more than five seconds in the final. She won the B final, finishing ninth overall, with a PR of 4:27.04 that ranks fourth all-time at AU. In the A final, Vos' time would have earned her third place.
  • Katie Yoo placed 11th overall in the 400 IM in 4:30.11, short of her own PR but over a three-and-a-half second drop from her prelims time.
  • The 400 IM had two other Eagles in the C final, Demetra Bicos with a PR of 4:33.06 (15th all-time) and Claire Mosher with a PR of 4:34.16 (16th all-time).
  • Lian Jeong Engle placed fifth in the 200 free prelims in 1:51.81, a new PR that ranks sixth all-time at AU. She took eighth overall in the finals.
  • Also making the top 16 list in the 200 free was Lurilla Bereveskos with her ninth-place finish in the prelims in 1:53.56, a PR that ranks 15th all-time. Fiona McMahon advanced to the B final as well and finished with a PR of 1:53.87.
  • Priddy made it to the A final in the 100 breaststroke and took eighth overall in 1:05.04, short of her PR from the prelims of 1:04.75 which ranks seventh all-time at AU.
  • Netz advanced to the B final in the 100 breaststroke, placing 15th overall in 1:05.56 which is short of her PR from this past February.
  • Making waves in the 100 backstroke was Crosby, who dropped over two and a half seconds off her prelims time to go 54.82 and win the B final. That PR ranks second all-time at AU, and would have won the event had she made it to the A final.
  • Close behind Crosby was Amaya Tomma who placed 10th overall in 56.60, just short of her PR from a year ago of 56.42 which ranks seventh all-time.
  • In the women's 1-meter diving, Peyton Thurman placed 12th.
  • The Eagles closed out the night with an eighth-place finish in the 800 free relay in 7:39.27 which ranks eighth all-time. Making up that team were Mallorie Jeremiah, Kate Williams, Hailey Rees, and Grace Gilbert. Jeremiah's lead-off 200 free leg of 1:53.21 is a PR that ranks 12th all-time at AU.
Notable Men's Results
  • The 200 medley relay team of Aidan Delehanty (backstroke), Colin Clough (breaststroke), Daniel Coughlin (butterfly), and Charlie St. Louis (freestyle) led off the night with a seventh-place finish in 1:31.67 which ranks sixth all-time at American.
  • AU's "B" team of Ryan Pursley, Will Deitch, Madan Morris, and Connor Florence took the 16th spot all-time at AU with their finish of 1:33.52 in the 200 medley relay.

  • Clough continued his outstanding showing this week, advancing to the A final in the 100 breaststroke. He set a PR in the prelims and broke it in the finals, going 55.11 for fourth place and taking over the third spot all-time in AU history, after also doing so in the 50 free a day ago.
  • There were a trio of other swimmers who made the B final in the 100 breaststroke—Deitch, Henry Harrison, and Kyler Alcebar.
  • Delehanty placed ninth in prelims of 100 backstroke with a PR of 50.42 which ranks seventh all-time at AU. After a scratch in the A final, Delehanty moved up to that heat in the night session and finished eighth overall.
  • Pursley made it onto the top 16 list for the 100 back in the 14th spot with his finals time of 51.48 which placed him 17th overall.
