BOSTON, Mass. – The snowy Boston weekend saw six members of the American men's track team competing at the ICAAAA Championships hosted by Boston University. Five new additions to the indoor track record books and six personal records were set.
The Eagles were split evenly between two events. On the starting line for the men's 1 mile event was sophomore
Oscar Counsell with two seniors,
Nathan Reeves and
Tucker Zullo. In the men's 800m, freshmen
Kaden Kluth and
Carver Morgan lined up alongside junior
Ethan Puc.
Starting off the weekend on Saturday in the men's mile was Reeves earning a personal best by five seconds and setting himself at second place on the top-10 performers list with a 4:06.61 finish. The time also earned him a spot in the final on Sunday.
Counsell and Zullo both earned big PRs in the mile event, and each earned a record book spot. Counsell is now seventh all time and Zullo sits at eighth all-time.
It was Kluth who won his heat in the men's 800m qualifier to earn a spot in the event final on Sunday. For Puc and Morgan, their times earned them spots as number four and number six all time in the AU indoor track record books, respectively. Both set big personal records with the results as well. With his finish, Puc jumped six spots in the books to move up from 10th all-time to fourth.
On Sunday Reeves' mile event saw him beat the PR he set the day before by a second, crossing the line sixth overall in 4:05.71, settling him firmly in the record book's second place spot. While Kluth, the freshman, came in seventh overall in the 800m final event.
QUOTES FROM COACH GRAHAM
"The guys came up here with a purpose and executed very well. All six guys either PRd by a significant margin or placed in their final. Tucker [Zullo] and Oscar [Counsell] with around five-second PRs solidifying their names in AUs top-10 handily. Nate [Reeves] lowering his PR in the prelims and then again in the final with very smart and aggressive racing was great to see.
"In the 800, similar results, Ethan [Puc] and Carver [Morgan] with significant PRs and placements now in the top 10. Kaden [Kluth] earning a spot in the final at these championships is a solid place to be. All around a very good cap to a successful indoor season for our teams.
"We now go back to work for a few weeks to continue to prepare for outdoor."
