WASHINGTON - After a 3-0 performance that helped lead American University wrestling to a team title at the 2023 Chippewa Challenge in North Carolina, freshman Caleb Campos has been named the Gregorio's Trattoria Student-Athlete of the Week for a second time this season. Campos has now won 10 of his last 11 bouts, losing only to the 17th-ranked wrestler in the nation.

Campos was American's only wrestler to compete in all three duals and also win all three of his bouts. The Eagles earned three one-point team victories, beating Central Michigan, Cal State Bakersfield and host Campbell after losing to all three teams one year ago. In the dual against Cal State Bakersfield that saw nine wins by decision—five for AU and four for CSUB—it was a 12-0 major decision victory for Campos that made the difference in the 16-15 team win. He cruised to another major decision against Campbell, 13-1, after starting the day with a 3-2 decision over Central Michigan.

After taking next weekend off, American returns to action at Virginia for a 1 p.m. dual on Saturday, Feb. 4.
