Defending PL Champion Women’s Basketball Announces Challenging Lineup for 2022-23

WASHINGTON – Plenty of strong teams, including Notre Dame who reached the NCAA Sweet 16 last season, await the American University women's basketball team as the Eagles begin their title defense after winning the Patriot League Tournament last year. American is now under the leadership of first-year head coach Tiffany Coll, promoted to the position after nine years with the program.

Season tickets are on sale now for entry to all home games in 2022-23. For detailed ticket information, see below.

ALMA MATER
  • Coach Coll will match up against her alma mater, UMBC, during the 2022-23 season.
  • Michelle Holmes joins the Eagles' staff this season after graduating from American in 2016. Holmes was a post player for AU from 2012-16.
HOME SWEET HOME
  • The Eagles will start the season off by continuing their tradition of hometown visits with a trip to Illinois to take on DePaul (Nov. 9) for senior Lauren Stack, who grew up just west of Chicago in Saint Charles, Ill. and junior Kayla Henning, who grew up north of Chicago.
CROSSTOWN CLASHES
  • The Eagles are once again set to go head-to-head with local rivals George Washington, George Mason and Howard. GW will serve as American's home opener (Nov. 17), followed shortly after by Howard (Nov. 30), while Mason will host a visit from AU for a match up (Dec. 3).
BAHAMAS BOUND
  • American is looking for some big wins in Bimini, Bahamas this Thanksgiving, preparing to face-off against Notre Dame for the first time in Eagles' history. The Fighting Irish finished 24-9 last season and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16.
  • The Eagles will face Arizona State for the first time since the 1996-97 season when they traveled to Tempe, falling 90-82 to the Sun Devils.
THAT HOME COURT ADVANTAGE
  • The Eagles are looking to keep up their home court advantage, winning 16 of their 17 home games in the 2021-22 season.
  • American will again play Virginia, this time at home in Bender Arena (Nov. 20). Last season, the Eagles swept into Charlottesville and took down the Cavaliers 69-56.
  • At least 13 games will be played by the Eagles in Bender Arena this season, nine of which will be conference matches.
CONFERENCE TITLE DEFENSE
  • American tips off the conference with a home game against Lafayette (Dec. 30). The Eagles will then take a short trip to Baltimore to face Loyola Maryland (Jan. 2) for their first game of 2023.
  • The Eagles will face off against Bucknell in Lewisburg, Pa. on March 1 before entering postseason play. American's victory against the Bison in last year's Patriot League Championship took the Eagles to The Big Dance.
