BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The American University field hockey team had three student-athletes earn NFHCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region accolades, the organization announced on Monday. Fifth-year
Noor Coenen highlighted the list with a First Team selection while senior
Georgia Davies and sophomore
Bryn Underwood were both voted onto the Second Team.
Division I All-Region teams are separated into five regions: Mid-Atlantic, Mideast, Northeast, South, and West - each region honors up to 16 student-athletes on a first team team, and up to 16 student-athletes on a second team.
This is the third-consecutive First Team selection for Coenen, and she becomes the first player in program history to earn five All-Region honors after earning a spot on the Second Team as a freshman and sophomore. A two-time Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year and five-time All-Patriot League First Team honoree, she became the No. 2 scorer in program history this season with 55 goals in her 79 games as an Eagle. The Naarden, Netherlands, native also sits fourth in AU history for career points (137), and holds spots in the conference record books at No. 3 for career goals and No. 5 for career points. She also added her name to the AU top-10 list for career assists with 27 for ninth all-time.
Davies, now a two-time Mid-Atlantic Second Team selection, closed her AU career with another dominant season anchoring AU's backline. One of the stingiest defensive squads in the country, the Eagles closed the season ranked 15th in the nation for goals against average (1.21) and eighth for shutouts per game (0.35). With Davies at the helm, AU allowed only four goals against Patriot League opponents and posted five shutouts in league play. The Ipswich, England, native also contributed on the offensive end as one of the key players in the Eagles' corner plays. She closed the season with six points off one goal and four assists, including one during the 2-1 win over Lafayette in the Patriot League Championship.
Underwood was also a key force in the AU's defensive effort. The sophomore goalkeeper earned her second career Patriot League major award this season as the conference's Goalkeeper of the Year. She came into the season as the returning Rookie of the Year. The Sinking Spring, Pa., native closed the season as one of the top keepers in the country, ranking 14th for save percentage (.778) and 15th for goals against average (1.26). This is her first Mid-Atlantic All-Region selection.
American closed the season with its 12th Patriot League title after going undefeated in league play for the 10th time since joining the conference in 2001. The Eagles earned a bye through the NCAA Opening Round and faced No. 3 Iowa in the First Round, falling to the Hawkeyes in a tight battle, 3-2.
