Pushback between the Eagles and the Spiders is at 3 p.m. on Friday, Sep. 4 while the contest between AU and App is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sep. 6.

Scouting the Eagles

• For a sixth time in seven seasons, American field hockey has found itself atop the Patriot League Preseason Poll. Jordan Reicher was tabbed the Patriot League's Preseason Forward of the Year and Emilia Winkler the Preseason Midfielder of the Year. Classmate Sophie Willemse joins the senior duo on the Preseason All-League Team.
• The Eagles are 0-2 this season after opening 2026 with a two game stint in California playing the Cal Bears and Stanford Cardinal. Against the Golden Bears, AU forced overtime on a late, game-tying goal from senior transfer Katelyn Dulin before falling 4-3 in overtime to the home team.
• When American took on Stanford, the Eagles fell 3-1 after the Cardinal opened the game with a lot of pressure at both ends of the field before AU found its footing in the second half, getting a goal back on a penalty stroke from Kaleigh Missimer, but ultimately the late efforts falling short.
• Reicher sank a goal against Cal, her first of the season coming in her home state. The striker finished the 2025 season leading the Eagles and the Patriot League in goals (13) and in game-winning goals (4). She was third in the league in shots on goal (33) and in points (27).
• Olivia Morraye was American's first goalscorer of opening weekend, hitting the back of the cage five minutes into the contest against Cal.
• Dulin was selected to be the Patriot League Midfielder of the week, earning her first Patriot League weekly honor. The midfielder scored American's game tying-goal against Cal in the fourth quarter that would force overtime.

Scouting the Spiders

• Richmond have opened the season 1-1 after an opening weekend that saw them blank Queens (N.C.) 12-0 and then fall to #6 Duke 1-0 after an early, first quarter goal from the Blue Devils.
• Twelve Richmond goals in a single game matches a program record; eight of UR's goals came in the fourth quarter alone.
• Abril Peroni clocked out with four goals on four shots on goal while Clara Larripa and Olivia Eusanio each walked away with a hat-trick. Another goal apiece was attributed to Elen Nicholls and Malena Magnano.
• Against Duke, only one Spider was able to take a shot on goal; Luna Paratore was the lone player to force Duke's Kaiya Chepow to make a save throughout the 60 minutes.
• The Spiders were picked by conference coaches to finished second in the A-10 behind Saint Joseph's and are the reigning 2025 A10 Regular Season Co-Champions. A pair of seniors, Larripa and Luna Paratore were named to the Preseason All-League Team.
• Larripa capped off 2025 collecting NFHCA All-America Third Team, NFHCA All-South Region First Team, All-A10 Championship Team, All-A10 First Team and A10 All-Academic accolades. She tallied 48 points on a career-high 20 goals and eight assists to lead the Spiders offense last season.
• Luna Paratore finished the 2025 season with 12 points on five goals and two assists in 13 games and collected her second-straight A10 First Team accolades. A 2025 preseason All-Conference and NFHCA Division I Watchlist honoree, she put away goals against nationally ranked Liberty and North Carolina.

Scouting the Mountaineers

• App State has opened the season with two overtime victories, both at home in Boone, claiming narrow wins over Towson (1-0, OT) and Georgetown (2-1, OT). The Mountaineers are coming off a historic 2025 season, tying a program high of 14 wins while also earning their first-ever national ranking at No. 17 after defeating then-No. 18 James Madison.
• Sarah Callery was the difference maker in the Mountaineers' game against Towson her goal, assisted by Kassie Paul, in the 71st minute had App opening the season with a victory on the eighth shot of the extra period of play.
• The Mountaineers and Tigers each took our shots on target throughout the game, App tallying 11 total shots to Towson's four. Towson did out-earn App State in penalty corners six to four.
• Facing Georgetown, neither the Hoyas nor Mountaineers found the back of the goal in the first half of play. Georgetown knocked back a goal, the first of the contest, to take a 1-0 lead halfway through the third period. App's late equalizer to force overtime came with less than 30 seconds to play in regulation on a goal from Baylie Phillips.
• Chloe Hook's golden goal came in the 75th minute to send App to victory over the Hoyas. The win marks the fifth consecutive season the that Mountaineers are beginning their season with a 2-0 record.
