All-Time Record: American leads, 23-18

WASHINGTON - The American University women's basketball team (5-7, 1-1 PL) will look to get back in the win column on Wednesday as the Eagles host Army West Point at 7 p.m. in Bender Arena.

LAST TIME OUT

  • American dropped to 1-1 in Patriot League play, and 1-6 on the road this season, on Sunday with a 59-44 loss at Boston University.
  • The Eagles were paced by a career-high effort from sophomore Laura Graytok, who led the team for the first time in her career with 12 points.
  • Junior Indeya Sanders was the only other Eagle to score in double-figures with 10 alongside her five rebounds, two assists, two steals, and one block.
  • For the first time this season, Sanders failed to give up a turnover in her team-high 36 minutes of play.
  • Sophomore Jade Edwards brought down a team-high six boards while classmate Emily Fisher pitched in a team-high three assists off the bench.
  • American struggled from the start, trailing 15-6 in the first quarter after BU opened with a 7-0 run.
  • Shooting woes continued through the second quarter, as the Eagles headed into the break down 15 at 29-14. They hit only 21.7 percent from the field and 25.0 percent from three.
  • American trailed by as much as 20 in the third quarter, but managed to keep pace with the Terriers through most of the stanza and entered the final 10 minutes down 49-31.
  • Head coach Megan Gebbia played only two starters in the fourth quarter after foul trouble in the third benched Marenyi - sophomore Taylor Brown played four minutes in the final quarter while Sanders played six. Freshman Lauren Stack, Graytok, and sophomore Maddie Doring played all 10 minutes down the final stretch.
  • BU widened the gap again, this time to 22, before Graytok found her rhythm from the outside and shot 3-for-3 from three in the final 1:50 to close the game back at the 15-point deficit, 59-44.

#AUWBB vs. THE PATRIOT LEAGUE

  • American holds a 241-121 overall record (.666) against Patriot League teams, and is 192-90 (.681) since joining the league in 2001-02.
  • The Eagles have been one of the powerhouses in the Patriot League over the past two seasons, accumulating a record of 33-4 during the regular season with losses to only Bucknell (3) and Navy until BU toppled them to open the PL road schedule on Jan. 5.
  • Holy Cross is the only team in the conference that holds an advantage over AU with a series record of 22-19.

KEEP IT CLEAN

  • American leads the PL and is 23rd in Division I for fewest personal fouls per game, averaging only 14.1 per game and allowing opponents only 11.5 free throw attempts per game.
  • Ohio and Boston University appeared on the line more than any AU opponent so far this season with 18 free throw attempts while Villanova (9), Saint Joseph's (5), and George Washington (2) were all held to under 10.

FIRST ONE TO 60...

  • Since Head Coach Megan Gebbia took the reins in 2013-14, the Eagles have put up an 96-31 record when scoring over 60 points, and 43-2 when scoring over 70.
  • Included in that run is a staggering 45-6 record since the 2017-18 season.
  • On the flip side of that, AU is 24-68 when its opponents score over 60 points.
  • In Gebbia's tenure, AU has allowed its opponents to score over 60 points only 92 times while the Eagles have crossed that threshold 127 times.

PROTECT THIS HOUSE

  • The Eagles are on 43-7 at home since the start of the 2016-17 season, including an undefeated 23-0 run that ranked sixth in Division I before ending with a loss to Ohio on Dec. 29, 2018.
  • In the Megan Gebbia era, the Eagles are 72-23 (.758) in Bender Arena, including 54-12 (.818) against Patriot League opponents. Among the highlights in her six seasons was the program's first undefeated season at home since the 1970's in 2017-18.

GRAYTOK STEPS UP

  • Sophomore Laura Graytok had a career performance during Sunday's loss at BU, as she led the team for the first time in her career with a career-high 12 points.
  • She shot a perfect 3-for-3 from 3-point range in the final 1:50 to single-handedly deliver AU's only winning quarter of the game (13-10).
  • Graytok entered the game with a career-high six points from the win over Colgate on Jan. 2. She only hit one three so far this season - during the win over George Washington on Dec. 22.

EDWARDS COMING IN STRONG

  • Sophomore Jade Edwards has had one of the best starts in a decade for the Eagles, averaging 16.0 ppg after 11 games. She is third in the last 10 years behind Jen Dumiak (2014-15, 16.8 ppg) and Michelle Kirk (2009-10, 19.9 ppg)
  • She has consistently sat within the top-3 of the PL rankings for scoring all season, including leading for two long stretches. She currently sits in third after being held to a season-low 7 points at Boston.
  • Edward's scored 20+ points on five occasions this season, including back-to-back career-highs with 24 points against Villanova (11/14) and High Point (11/18).

HOW ABOUT THOSE HANDS

  • Coming in at only 5'6", junior Indeya Sanders is not the player you'd expect to rank second in the PL for blocks (1.2 per game). She has 14 total on the season, including a career-high three against Villanova.
  • Arguably the best all-around player for the Eagles, Sanders leads the team in rebounds (5.9), assists (4.8), steals (1.9), blocks (1.2), and is third in scoring (8.0).
  • She is the only player in the Patriot League to lead her team in assists (4.8) and blocks (1.2) per game, let alone in steals (1.9) and rebounds (5.9), as well.
  • She is also the only player in the league to rank in the top five in both assists (third) and blocks (second).
  • Sanders also leads the team in assist/turnover ratio (1.7), and has had a positive ratio in all but two games this season - Ohio (4-4) and George Mason (1-4) - including one game without a single turnover (1/5 at Boston University).
  • She picked up a career-high four steals against George Mason, Saint Joseph's, and Colgate, and tied her career-high with eight assists against Colgate.

SCOUTING THE BLACK KNIGHTS

  • Army West Point is still in search of its first Patriot League victory of the season after falling to Bucknell, 63-52, and Colgate, 100-93.
  • All four of the Black Knights' victories this season were by fewer than 10 points - Air Force, 68-66, Fairleigh Dickinson, 70-68, LIU, 67-60, and Bryant, 81-75.
  • The 100-93 shootout against Colgate broke the Patriot League record with a combined 115 points in the second half. It was also the highest scoring game for Army since the 107-46 win over St. Joseph's Brooklyn on December 16, 2017.
  • Two players closed with over 20 points - Alisa Fallon (26) and Hope Brown (23) - while Lindsey Scamman and Sarah Bohn ended with 15 and 14 points, respectively.
  • Scamman also closed with nine rebounds while Fallon added a team-high seven assists.
  • The Black Knights shot 52.1 percent from the field (38-73), 45.2 percent from three (14-31), and went to the free throw line only five times (3-5).
  • Fallon leads the overall scoring effort for the team with 13.2 ppg followed by Scamman (12.0), who also leads on the boards with 7.7 rpg.
  • The Black Knights are averaging 64.7 ppg to their opponents' 75.5 ppg, and have shot 40.8 percent from the field, 32.5 percent from three, 63.8 percent from the line, and brought down 38.7 rpg.
