Wrestling Hosts EIWA Matches vs. Navy and Binghamton on Friday and Saturday

WASHINGTON - After a weekend off from competition, the American University wrestling team gets back to it this weekend in a pair of home matches vs. EIWA opponents Navy (4-4, 1-1) and Binghamton (3-8, 2-6). The Eagles (2-5, 2-3) host Navy at 7 p.m. on Friday for District Day and Wrestle Like a Girl Night, and will host Binghamton on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. for Wounded Warrior Night.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES
  • Four AU wrestlers are ranked in the NCAA Coaches Panel Top 25, led by redshirt junior Kizhan Clarke, currently at No. 7 in the 149-pound weight class.
  • Redshirt junior Tanner Harvey is No. 23 (184), redshirt junior Gage Curry is No. 24 (125) and redshirt senior Sal Profaci is No. 26 (141).
  • Clarke has a record of 30-3, the most wins of any wrestler in DI. He has four titles to his name this season, has posted a 6-1 mark in dual meets and took fifth place at the prestigious Midlands Championships at the end of December.
  • The Eagles are welcoming honorary coach Sally Roberts, a former elite wrestler and the founder of Wrestle Like a Girl. AU is dedicating tonight's match to helping grow the sport of wrestling and the opportunities for women within the sport.
  • AU is under the direction of ninth-year head coach Teague Moore. The Eagles earned impressive tournament finishes earlier this season, but are looking to improve their dual meet results after going 2-5 so far.
  • The Eagles opened their dual season dropping three straight matches - Wyoming (22-13), Army (33-7) and North Carolina (39-4) - before bouncing back to win two straight home matches against EIWA foes Brown (18-16) and Drexel (27-14). They have lost their last two duals, again to EIWA opponents Lehigh (33-8) and Columbia (21-20).
