- Lustig clocked the only victory of the weekend for the Eagles during his indoor 5000m debut. He paced the field of 20 with a final time of 15:25.16 during Friday's evening schedule.
- Six Eagles walked away from the meet with new personal records (PR's), including freshman Emily Neuner who has now PR'd in each of her 3000-meter runs so far this season. She was one of two AU women to place in the top-ten of their event with a ninth-place crossing in 10:50.05.
- Senior Arianna Lopez picked up the top individual finish of the day for the women with a seventh-place finish in the 1000-meter run (3:03.00).
- On the men's side, the young sprint squad continues to improve as Mark Kopp and Khalil Ibrahim each walked away with new 200m PR's while Xavier Ibrahim picked up a new top time in the 400m dash.
- Also among the highlights from the men's distance squad were a pair of top-ten finishes in the 3000m run, led by a fifth-place finish from freshman Russell Sullivan (8:44.99). Classmate Tucker Zullo was close behind in eighth overall with a final time of 8:48.14.
HEAR FROM COACH GRAHAM...
"This weekend was another good step for our developing team. We had a very strong day one of the meet, highlighted by two massive performances in the 5k for freshman
Thomas Scartz and event winner
Max Lustig.
Arianna Lopez and
Nia Holden also had strong performances in the 1000m.
"Day two was a bit more challenging in terms of keeping the momentum going as many of our athletes were coming back for their second events. Our two cross country leaders,
Russell Sullivan and
Tucker Zullo, both came through strong in their distance openers in the 3000m run."
NEXT UP...
The Eagles will be back next weekend with the Mason Invitational on Friday-Saturday, January 24-25.
