WASHINGTON - American University field hockey junior Noor Coenen was selected as the first GEICO Student-Athlete of the Week for 2019-20 on Tuesday after leading the Eagles to a 2-0 weekend at the Terrapin Invitational in College Park, Md.
- Coenen was also selected as the PL Offensive Player of the Week after arguably one of the best weekends of her career, leading the Eagles with 11 points (4 goals, 3 assists) during the wins over James Madison, 2-1, and Towson, 7-0. The 2019 Patriot League Preseason Player of the Year contributed to all but two goals on the weekend, including scoring off a pair of penalty strokes with one against both JMU and Towson.
- Her eight points during the 7-0 trouncing of Towson tied her career-high from freshman year when she scored four goals during the October 8 win over Brown.
- Coenen leads the league with five goals and 14 points so far this season and ranks second with four assists. She also ties for first in the PL with 20 shots, averaging 3.33 per game.
- In the national rankings, Coenen currently sits in 11th for points per game, 26th for assists per game, and 27th for goals per game.
UP NEXT
The Eagles will return home on Thursday, September 19, for a 4 p.m. start against UC Davis. Patriot League play will kick off at Jacobs Complex on Saturday, Sept. 28, with a noon showdown against Bucknell.
