Missimer’s Career Day, Reicher Game Winner Sends Field Hockey Past Boston U.

WASHINGTON  –– A back-and-forth battle between American University field hockey and Boston Univeristy saw two goal-scoring braces and a late, fourth-quarter game winner to have the Eagles defeating the Terriers 3-2.

Notable
  • Kaleigh Missimer, now on six goals this season, scored a brace, notching AU's first two goals of the day. Missimer's now holding a career-high in goals and is third on the team in scoring.
  • Jordan Reicher's game winner is her seven goal and her third game winner of the season. She's second on the team in scoring.
  • American earned seven penalty corners while keeping Boston from a single corner attempt.
How It Happened
It was Caroline O'Brein and the Terriers who struck first, securing a goal in the 11th minute to take Boston U. to a 1-0 lead.

In the second though, Missimer delivered twice for AU. The first goal came from a penalty stroke, Missimer's specialty, earned in the 17th minute by Reicher. The BU goalie guessed the correct side, but Missimer was able to sneak it past low on the right side of the frame.

Missimer's second goal was a deflection off O'Brien during a penalty corner, her aim true to target and was a five-hole shot past the keeper, and O'Brien, back to hopefully make a defensive save, didn't get enough on it to prevent AU from going up 2-1.

O'Brien got her brace in the 47th minute after neither team was able to make a move in the third period and tie the game at 2-all.

Nine minutes later, in the 56th minute, Reicher was sitting at the far post, waiting in case she was needed as the ball was shuffled across the goal by Jill DuVarney. Nora Tromble–directly in front of the cage–managed to get a stick on it, but was blocked, and the rebound landed right to Reicher who slid it home to put the Eagles up 3-2.

American is now 3-1 in Patriot League play with two games remaining.
