Borcherding's Three-Goal Weekend Nets GEICO Award

WASHINGTON – A three-goal weekend has earned field hockey player Carlotta Borcherding the selection as the GEICO Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sept. 4.

Borcherding, a sophomore forward from Hamburg, Germany, scored a pair of goals in a 5-2 victory at 17th-ranked James Madison last Friday.

On Sunday, she scored the game-tying goal at VCU with 1:53 remaining in regulation. The Eagles earned the road victory in double overtime when Rafaela Rubas scored the game-winner.

Borcherding leads the Eagles in scoring with those three goals. American has started the season with a 3-1 record.

AU travels to College Park this weekend for the Terrapin Invitational. The Eagles play Harvard on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and against 2016 national champion Delaware on Sunday at 3 p.m.

American opens its Patriot League schedule on Saturday, Sept. 15 at home against defending champion Boston University. That matchup begins at noon at the Jacobs Complex.
