The American University women's basketball team continues its three-game road swing on Saturday, Dec. 5, when they travel to Harrisonburg, Va., to face James Madison in a 7 p.m. contest.
American enters Saturday's game with an 0-7 overall record after falling to UMBC, 47-46, on Wednesday. Although the Eagles recorded their best defensive effort of the season, the Retrievers went on a 6-0 run in the fourth quarter to hold off a late AU rally.
Junior Lauren Crisler led the Eagles against UMBC with 13 points and a career-high-tying eight rebounds, while senior Ari Booth pitched in eight points. For the Retrievers, Capree Garner and Pandora Wilson each scored 12 points to lead the team.
This season, senior Michelle Holmes is leading the Eagles with 11.1 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, while junior Lauren Crisler adds 10.1 points and 5.3 rebounds points per contest.
James Madison enters the weekend with a 4-1 overall record on the season after picking up a 68-56 overtime victory over Hampton last weekend. The Dukes overcame a 14-point deficit to force the extra period, where they outscored the Lady Pirates 16-4.
Senior Ashley Perez, who shot the game-tying basket in regulation, led JMU with 22 points, while redshirt senior Jazmon Gwathney added 19 points and nine rebounds.
For the season, the Dukes are averaging 76.2 points per game and are holding their opponents to just 52.6 points per contest. Perez leads JMU with 18.6 points per game, while Gwathney adds 18.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per contest. Da'Lishia Griffin is the top rebounder for JMU, averaging 10.2 boards per game.
