WASHINGTON - The American University women's basketball team opens the 2015-16 season on Friday, Nov. 13, as it visits Princeton in a 7 p.m. contest.
American returns eight letterwinners from the 2014-15 team that compiled a 24-9 overall record and earned its first-ever Patriot League Tournament title and NCAA Tournament appearance. However, the Eagles lose three starters from their history-making squad, including PL Player of the Year
Jen Dumiak.
Leading American in its rebuilding year is senior Michelle Holmes, a third-team All-Patriot League selection in 2014-15. Holmes started all 33 games for the Eagles last year, averaging 10.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per contest.
Senior Ari Booth and junior Lauren Crisler, who both averaged 4.8 points per game last season, are the next two leading returning scorers for the Eagles.
Princeton begins the 2015-16 season receiving votes in the AP poll and ranked 25th in the USA Today Coaches Poll after posting a 31-1 overall record in 2014-15. The Tigers, who were the only Division I women's basketball team last year to complete the regular season with an undefeated record, advanced to the NCAA Second Round.
The Tigers return four starters from last year's history-making team, including All-Ivy League performers Annie Tarakchian and Alex Wheatley. Tarakchian averaged 10.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per game last season, while Wheatley added 10.9 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.
