Women’s Basketball Welcomes Emma Winters as Director of Operations

WASHINGTON –– Emma Winters has joined American University women's basketball as the team's new Director of Operations, rounding out head coach Kelly Killion's staff ahead of the 2026-27 season's tip off. Winters has spent the three seasons prior as a manager for the team, learning the ins and outs of the program.

"I am extremely excited to welcome Emma back to AU!" said coach Killion. "She played an integral role in our program as our head manager and will transition into this new role seamlessly. Our program is centered around family and what better way to fill an open position than with a member of our family!"

During her time as a manager, Winters played an important role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the program, assisting with practices, games, team travel, equipment, and other organizational responsibilities. Winters worked closely with the coaching staff and student-athletes to help ensure the program operated smoothly both on and off the court.

Winters experience as a manager provided her with a strong understanding of the demands of a Division I basketball program and allowed her to develop valuable experience in team operations, organization, communication, and behind-the-scenes preparation. Winters now brings that experience into her new position as Director of Basketball Operations, where she will continue to contribute to the success of the program.

"I am thrilled to continue my career with AU Women's Basketball," said Winters. "This program has been such a meaningful part of my success, and I'm excited for the opportunity to give back to the program that has given so much to me."

Winters earned a degree in Public Relations and Strategic Communication from American University in May of 2026.
