Erin Koch and Craig Brown led the American University men's and women's track and field teams at the Maryland Invitational Saturday in College Park, Pa.
Koch ran a 58.64 in the 400 meter dash to place fourth overall, marking the second fastest time in program history. Her time was only fractions of a second slower than the school record of 58.59 set by Zaia Wharton '06 in 2006. Brown, meanwhile, placed third in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 8:15.24, also the second fastest time in program history.
Alexandra Tyburski posted a top 10 time of her own as she placed sixth in the 800 meter run in 2:17.70, putting her fifth all-time.
Four Eagles ran to a second-place finish on Saturday including Conor Sullivan in the men's 800 meter run. Sullivan stopped the clock at 1:54.72 while Morgan Block placed fifth in the event in 1:55.73.
Josh Olsen finished second in the 1,500 meter run, leading a quartet of Eagles who finished in the top 10. Olsen posted a time of 3:55.83 with Mark Allen (6th, 3:59.80), John Pope (8th, 4:01.07) and Ryan Williams (9th, 4:01.38) following close behind. Octavia Rinehardt took second in the women's 1,500 with a time of 4:41.61.
Zach Wright also took second place in the high jump, clearing a final height of 1.98 meters.
American will return to the track Friday and Saturday, April 15-16 at the Bison Outdoor Games in Lewisburg, Pa.
